Erwin Wurm
This image is of a girl and a plank of wood i really like the simplicity of Erwin Wurm's images and how he would capture an absurd image without really trying hard. I attempted to try his idea out on one of my experiments but i'd like to work on it closer as i decided to do that as a quick image and it wasn't very well thought out. But i like the concept of this image as it is peculiar, the girl is hanging from a plank of wood which isn't a everyday situation and because of the angles of the image it leaves people thinking how this image was taken and how was that position even possible. But if you look closely you see that it is all about the angle as the girl is simply laying on the floor with her legs angled. But anyone who was glancing at the image would not realize.

This image is of an ordinary place in a rural area and then you come across a person with their head in the wall which is very absurd. It is an interesting concept as it will make a person wonder where has the head gone? How did that person even get into that position. Again Erwin Wurm has very simplistic ideas in his images but they work and are very absurd, as you would never come across anything like it. |
First Response
These images were my first attempt at absurd images, some were successful but some i think i could of worked on more or changed the composition to frame the subject more clearly and neatly. i liked the image of the bin and all you can see is the girls head and not the rest of her body which may make people wonder why someone is in the bin.
Homework Task:
I chose to use the word vogue in a series of images because as a worldwide and well known magazine vogue is something that everyone will take inspiration from and will "follow" the trends and only because of the popularity of it, anything that vogue publishes is big and the "trend" so as for my absurd images i decided to place the logo of vogue on items that are random and ridiculous but it questions it as is it vogue? The word vogue itself has its own meaning. So questioning a radiator, is it vogue? or do u make it "vogue" by the fact the logo is placed there.
I was satisfied with this experiment being the first of many, i enjoyed exploring the different ideas that i could experiment on, I would like to take this further by placing the logo on outside objects and scenes and also use more different, weird phrases.

For these set of images we had to take images that hid the body or body parts which made it absurd. i was happy with some of the images but this task i didn't have as many ideas that day and the weather wasn't so great so it was limiting the places i wanted to go to take some images. I like the image of the boy holding the mirror again the wall but i would of liked it more if the bricks and the reflection were more lined up so it would look more alined.
Sebastian BieniekDoublefaced.
Sebastian Bieniek is a figure moulding to his time. Not only he does that but also has the sensitivity to criticise and point out what’s wrong with us as a civilization. Bieniek seems to renew the image of the outcast Artist who puts ill at ease and gets into everybody’s skin. He’s not of the taste of everyone but surely his work and him don’t let anybody indifferent. Bieniek truly denounces everything that’s wrong without taking care of the result. That’s why I permit myself to call him the last man standing in a sea full of cowards. |

Signs
These were my attempt at signs and I'm satisfied with the outcome and the signs. My signs were ridiculous and confusing which made it more absurd and it was more of quirky outrageous signs. I would like to work more on signs at home as it would have better and different backgrounds for me to relate a sign to. I'd like to take the images with people in the situations to make it more absurd.
David ShrigleyShrigley is a british visual artist and his work is more on creating sarcastic images. I like the image of the "i will show the world how brilliant i am" and its someone painting scribble and it shows how art is interpreted even if it is something ridiculous, as art is anything nowadays. He creates cartoons on absurd situations rather than take an image of an absurd situation in real life. |

I liked the signs in this task as it was more of sarcasm which made it absurd. I liked the idea of the "caution you 'might' fall out" sign as i stuck it on a sealed closed window and it says you might fall out which is questioning the intelligence of it. I also liked the other sign of the caution sign saying "you know, just be cautious" i liked it because the bold caution sign will attract the attention of people only for it to say "just be cautious" which isn't really relevant, as there is no actual reason to be cautious. The "eat me" sign i was testing it out until i found something i liked such as the caution signs. I would of liked it if the sign with the white spirit bottle was drink me and it makes more sense as you can't eat white spirit. I'd like to create more signs to work with.
For these set of images i enjoyed creating the signs and again i liked it being really sarcastic and ridiculous. I liked the idea of 'to brush thoughts with' because being a hairbrush you're supposed to be brushing your hair but by stating it to brush thoughts seems absurd. I also liked the 'nothing to see here, but you're looking anyways right?' this sign is quite interesting as it is telling you to not draw any attention to whats happening and ignore the situation but being a human we are naturally drawn to things and take more interest in things that we are told not to do. And i think the added little sentence at the bottoms shows that the sign is not really doing any justice as it already knows what the person will be doing when told there is nothing to see here.
Forced Perspectives
Forced perspective is a technique which employs optical illusion to make an object appear farther away, closer, larger or smaller than it actually is.
Here i attempted forced perspectives, but i think i could of done some more research on forced perspectives because i didn't quite understand how to take images properly applying the method.
i experimented with this idea but i didn't like it, as it was more difficult taping the face to how i wanted it to look like and the tape wasn't strong enough to hold the skin back to take good images.

Responses to Bourel & Lima
These were my responses to Bourel and Lima. I found their work on pinterest which really interested me and i attempted to have a go doing their style go work on my own images. I used photoshop to achieve these images, i wanted to find as quirky patterns that would go on the face as it shows it revealing what's under the skin. I liked the idea of removing the skin. My response to Lima was using the blur tool on photoshop and dragging out and smudging the image. I made sure the keep the eyes quite big and prominent in the blur and nothing else. I took 4 to be my final pieces as i thought they were all simple but effective. The concept of these images are different
Final Pieces
I chose these 4 images as my final pieces as i thought they represented absurd the best in my own interpretations. The first two images are absurd in a way that when you remove the first layer theres something better or weirder underneath; revealing what we would never see. I chose to pair them as i thought they looked better together rather than by itself. I also decided that i would use the same images but the change the pattern or image that was underneath. I attempted to use my own images of patterns but it didn't work as well as the images i already found online. although the first image i had taken that image of a laptop case i found and it was of sweets. It would have been better if i had managed to get the actual shapes of the sweets seen but i couldn't so i left it like it was and preferred it.

For this project, i researched artists such as Erwin Wurm, David Shrigley, Matthieu Bourel, Maykel Lima, all photographers with different approaches to absurd photography. I discovered these artists through the teacher and pinterest, i've learned what absurd can be and how many different ways it could be expressed. At the start of the project i didn't understand fully what absurd was and it was hard to think of ideas to experiment with, but pinterest helped with a lot of inspiration, also being around the school environment i found it more difficult to do more 'absurd' things.
I used photoshop on some images, some had no edit, and i created my own signs to use in my images to make it more original. i found the task quite difficult at a point because i couldn't think of anything else to do and the work i tried to experiment on never satisfied me, but i found something that i was comfortable with to do which was edit images on photoshop, and i found some artists on pinterest
